If you’re a keen garden party host, then Fuscina’s stylish and functional steel fire pits are a must. Our heavy duty fire pits are made from premium grade steel plates to ensure increased durability, longer life and resistance to any warping. We guarantee our fire pits will keep your outdoor space warm and cosy for many years to come. The fire pit can be customised with plasma cut engravings and built to certain sizes upon request, so contact us today and we’d be happy to advise you.
Our heavy duty industrial fire pit is fabricated from 2mm and 5mm steel plate and finished in ultra-high-temperature paint, a specification chosen specifically to resist the warping that ruins thin pressed-steel fire pits after a season or two. Cheap bowls distort because the metal is too thin to cope with repeated heating and cooling cycles; 5mm plate simply doesn’t move in the same way. It’s heavier to lift as a result – the trade-off for something still in the garden in fifteen years. It’s the same handmade, made-in-Britain approach we take to everything.
Yes – we plasma-cut bespoke engravings straight into the steel panels, so the design becomes part of the fire pit rather than something applied to the surface that will burn off. Family names, house names, estate or club crests, monograms, wildlife silhouettes and initials all work well, and the cut-outs glow when the fire is lit, which is the real reason to do it. Send us artwork or a rough idea and we’ll advise on what will cut cleanly at that scale. We take the same approach to personalisation across our engraved timber products.
The ultra-high-temperature coating is applied to resist rust and corrosion, but any steel left standing in water will eventually suffer, so a few habits make the difference. Empty ash out once it’s cold – ash holds moisture against the base and is mildly corrosive – keep the pit raised on hard standing rather than sunk into wet lawn, and throw a cover over it through the winter. Some surface bloom on a well-used steel fire pit is normal and doesn’t affect its structure. The same principle applies to choosing any outdoor furniture built to last.
Our standard fire pit is 500mm wide, which comfortably warms four to six people seated around it and suits most domestic patios. Go larger if you regularly host bigger groups or the pit sits in an open, exposed garden where heat dissipates quickly – we build to custom sizes on request, and larger pits are a common ask for wedding venues, holiday lets and country properties. A bigger pit also gets through noticeably more wood over an evening. Commercial buyers should ask about trade discounts.
Well-seasoned hardwood – oak, ash, beech or birch – below 20% moisture. It burns hotter, lasts longer and throws far fewer sparks than damp or resinous softwood, which spits and coats everything in smoke. Never burn treated, painted or pressure-preserved timber, MDF, pallets of unknown origin or garden waste: the fumes are harmful and they’ll foul the steel. Kiln-dried logs are the easy option if you don’t have space to season your own – and a steel log store keeps that supply dry and to hand.
On a level, non-combustible surface – stone, slate, gravel or concrete – with clear space above and around it. Keep at least three metres between the pit and fences, sheds, overhanging branches, garden furniture and anything else that will catch, and never site one directly on timber decking or artificial grass without a proper heat-proof base beneath it. Think about prevailing wind too, so smoke blows away from seating rather than across it. See how our fire pits sit in finished gardens in the gallery.
