Standard UK dining table legs sit at 71-73cm, giving around 72-76cm of finished table height once a 3-4cm top is added. That leaves roughly 30cm of clearance between the underside of the frame and a standard dining chair seat, which is what stops a table feeling cramped. Kitchen island and poseur heights run to 90-110cm, and coffee tables to 40-45cm. Yes – our heavier frames are specifically engineered for stone and thick hardwood tops. The Bigbury heavy duty table frame is fabricated from 80×80 and 80×40 ERW box section steel, which will comfortably carry a full slab of marble, concrete or 4cm+ solid oak without deflection across the span. Lighter styles suit smaller tops and side tables. If you already know the material, weight and dimensions of your top, send the specification over and we’ll confirm the right section size rather than leave you guessing.
Bespoke is the default here, not an upgrade. Every set is cut, welded and finished to order in our Devon workshop, so width, length, height and steel section can all be altered, and most designs are offered in five to seven powder-coat colours as standard – matt black, ice white and brushed steel among them. Custom RAL colours are available on request. Architects, interior designers and joiners ordering repeat sets should look at our trade discounts.
It comes down to how much visual weight the room can take. X-frame legs like the Exminster and Starcross read as classic industrial and work hard in open-plan kitchens and barn conversions. Yes – suitable steel screws are supplied with every set, and the top plates arrive pre-drilled and countersunk so the fixing heads sit flush against the underside of your top. On the Starcross X style table legs, for example, that’s a 120mm top plate. Position the frame, mark through the holes, pilot-drill to a depth that stops short of the face of your top, then screw down. Because each set is fabricated to order rather than pulled off a shelf, there’s a short build window before your legs are powder-coated and packed – orders are dispatched within 24-48 hours of completion, and UK delivery is free. Get in touch for the current lead time on your chosen design, particularly if you’re working to a kitchen fit-out or a commercial opening date; we can usually work around a fixed installation date if we know about it early.
